Important: Funimation Has Merged Into Crunchyroll

Funimation shut down its standalone streaming service in April 2024. All Funimation content and subscriber accounts were migrated to Crunchyroll. The Funimation app and website are no longer active. If you are still being charged for Funimation, your subscription has likely been converted to a Crunchyroll subscription, or the charge is coming through Apple, Google Play, or another third-party billing platform.

Cancel via Crunchyroll Website

1

Verify Your Account Has Migrated

Go to crunchyroll.com and try to sign in using your Funimation email and password. If your account was migrated, you should be able to log in. If not, check your email for migration instructions from Funimation or Crunchyroll.

2

Open Account Settings

Once logged in to Crunchyroll, click your profile icon in the top-right corner and select Settings from the dropdown menu.

3

Go to Subscription

In your account settings, navigate to the Subscription tab. This shows your current plan, renewal date, and how you are being billed. If it says you are billed through Apple or Google, you will need to cancel through those platforms instead.

4

Click Cancel Subscription

Click the Cancel Subscription button. Crunchyroll may present you with retention offers or ask why you are leaving. You can decline these and proceed with cancellation.

5

Confirm Cancellation

Complete the confirmation prompts. You will receive a confirmation email from Crunchyroll. Your premium access continues until the end of your current billing period, after which your account reverts to the free tier.

Subscribed Through Apple or Google?

If you originally subscribed to Funimation through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, those subscriptions may still be active even after the Funimation shutdown. You must cancel through the platform that is billing you.

What Happens After You Cancel Funimation?

Crunchyroll free tier is available

After your paid subscription ends, your Crunchyroll account reverts to the free tier. You can still watch ad-supported anime, but premium features like ad-free viewing, simulcasts, and offline downloads will be removed.

Your watch history is preserved

Your Crunchyroll watchlist, watch history, and queue from the Funimation migration are preserved even after canceling your premium subscription. You do not lose your account data.

Funimation digital copies are not accessible

If you purchased digital copies of anime through the Funimation store, those are no longer accessible through the Funimation platform. Some titles may have been transferred to other digital storefronts, but availability varies.

No refunds for partial periods

Neither Crunchyroll nor the original Funimation offered refunds for partial billing periods. Your premium access continues until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Funimation still a thing?

No. Funimation was officially shut down in April 2024. All of its anime library and subscriber base were absorbed by Crunchyroll, which is now the sole anime streaming platform under the Sony-owned brand. The Funimation website and apps are no longer functional.

I am still being charged for Funimation. Why?

Your subscription was likely migrated to Crunchyroll, or the charge is coming through a third-party billing platform like Apple or Google Play. Check your bank statement to identify the billing source, then cancel through that platform. If you are unsure, contact Crunchyroll support.

Was my Funimation watch history transferred?

If you completed the migration process before the shutdown deadline, your watch history, queue, and account data were transferred to Crunchyroll. If you missed the migration window, that data may have been lost.

Can I get a refund for my Funimation subscription?

Funimation and Crunchyroll do not typically offer refunds for past billing periods. If you believe you were charged after the service was discontinued without being notified, contact Crunchyroll support or dispute the charge with your bank.

What happened to my Funimation digital purchases?

Digital purchases made through the Funimation store are no longer accessible through Funimation. Some users received instructions to redeem content on other platforms like Microsoft Movies & TV. If you have not redeemed your purchases, contact Crunchyroll support for assistance.
