Cancel Google One on Desktop
Go to your Google One settings
Open your web browser and navigate to one.google.com/settings (or go to google.com/settings/storage). Make sure you are signed into the Google account that owns the storage plan. If you have multiple Google accounts, check the profile icon in the top-right to confirm which account is active.
Click Cancel membership
Under your current plan details, you will see a Cancel membership option. Click it. Google will display a summary of what you will lose when the cancellation takes effect, including your extra storage, Google One VPN access (if applicable), and any family sharing benefits.
Confirm by clicking Cancel plan
Review the summary, then click Cancel plan to confirm. Google may ask you to select a reason for canceling. Once confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email. Your storage and benefits remain active until the end of your current billing period.
Tip: Before canceling, check your current storage usage at one.google.com/storage. If you are using more than 15GB, you will need to delete files or back them up elsewhere before your plan expires to avoid service restrictions.
Cancel via the Google One App (Android)
Open the Google One app
Launch the Google One app on your Android device. Make sure you are signed in with the account that holds the subscription.
Go to Settings
Tap the Settings gear icon at the top of the app. This takes you to the membership management area where you can see your plan details.
Tap Cancel membership and confirm
Tap Cancel membership, review the information about what you will lose, and confirm your cancellation. Your storage remains available until the end of your billing cycle.
Subscribed Through Apple or Google?

What Happens After You Cancel Google One?
Your storage stays until the billing period ends
Google does not remove your extra storage immediately. You keep the full storage amount and all Google One benefits until the end of your current billing cycle. After that, you are downgraded to the free 15GB tier.
Your files are not deleted, but services are restricted
If you exceed the free 15GB limit after cancellation, your existing files remain but you cannot upload new files to Drive, back up new photos, or send/receive Gmail if your mailbox is full. You will need to free up space or resubscribe to restore full functionality.
Over-quota data may be deleted after 2 years
If your storage stays over the 15GB free limit for more than 2 years, Google reserves the right to delete content across Drive, Gmail, and Photos. This gives you a long grace period, but you should back up important files or reduce usage to avoid data loss.
Family members lose shared storage too
If you have a Google One family plan, all family group members lose access to the shared storage pool when you cancel. Each member reverts to their individual free 15GB. Notify your family members before canceling so they can prepare.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens to my Google Photos if I cancel Google One?
Your existing photos and videos are not deleted. However, once you exceed the free 15GB of storage (shared across Drive, Gmail, and Photos), you will not be able to back up new photos or videos. You will need to either free up space by deleting files or resubscribe to a storage plan. Any photos already in your library remain accessible.
Can I get a refund for Google One?
Google One storage purchases are generally non-refundable. Your storage and benefits remain active until the end of your current billing period. However, in some countries and regions, Google offers the option to cancel immediately and receive a prorated refund for the unused portion of your plan. Check the cancellation page for your specific options.
Can I downgrade to a cheaper plan instead of canceling?
Yes. Instead of canceling entirely, you can switch to a smaller Google One plan. Go to one.google.com, click on your plan, and look for the option to change or downgrade. This is a good option if you need more than 15GB but less than your current plan provides.
What happens to my family group if I cancel Google One?
When you cancel a family plan, all family members lose access to the shared storage at the end of the billing period. Each person reverts to their individual free 15GB. Your family group itself stays intact for other Google services, but the shared storage benefit is removed. Let your family members know in advance so they can manage their storage usage.
Will I lose access to Google One VPN?
Yes. If your Google One plan included VPN access, you will lose it when your plan ends. The VPN feature was available on certain premium Google One tiers. After cancellation, you will need a separate VPN service or need to resubscribe to an eligible Google One plan to regain VPN access.
