Cancel Max on the Website

1

Go to max.com and sign in

Head over to max.com in your browser and log in with your email and password. If you have forgotten which email you used, check your inbox for old billing receipts -- they are hiding in there somewhere.

2

Click on your profile icon

In the top-right corner, click your profile icon (it may show your initials or avatar). From the dropdown, select Settings.

3

Go to Subscription

On the Settings page, find and click Subscription. This shows your current plan, billing date, and payment method. Take a moment to appreciate all those shows you watched.

4

Click Cancel Subscription

Click Cancel Subscription. Max will likely try to tempt you with a discount or ask why you are leaving (they always do). Stay strong, confirm your cancellation, and you are free.

Important: If you subscribed through a third party (Apple, Google Play, Roku, Amazon), you must cancel through that platform instead. Max cannot cancel those subscriptions for you.

What Happens After You Cancel Max?

You keep access until your billing period ends

After canceling, you can still watch Max until the end of your current billing cycle. So if you just got charged, you still have a few weeks of guilt-free streaming ahead.

Your profiles and watchlist are saved

Max retains your profiles, watchlist, and viewing history for a while. If you decide to come back, your carefully curated "watch later" list should still be intact.

Downloaded content disappears

Any shows or movies you downloaded for offline viewing will stop working once your subscription expires. So maybe watch those downloaded episodes before your time is up.

You can resubscribe anytime

Max makes it easy to come back. Just log in and choose a plan whenever the next big HBO original drops and FOMO gets the better of you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get a refund when I cancel Max?

No. Max does not offer prorated refunds. Your subscription stays active until the end of your current billing period, so you can keep watching until then. Think of it as a farewell tour.

I subscribed through Apple. Can I cancel on the Max website?

No. If you subscribed through Apple, you need to cancel through your iPhone or iPad settings (Settings > your name > Subscriptions). The Max website cannot manage Apple-billed subscriptions.

What happens to my profiles and watchlist?

Max saves your profile data, watchlist, and viewing history for a period after cancellation. If you resubscribe, everything should be right where you left it -- including that show you started three months ago and never finished.

Can I downgrade instead of canceling?

Yes. If you are on the Ad-Free or Ultimate plan, you can downgrade to the With Ads plan at $9.99/mo instead of canceling entirely. Go to Settings > Subscription > Change Plan to see your options.

Is Max the same as HBO Max?

Yes. HBO Max was rebranded to simply "Max" in 2023. It still has all HBO content plus additional movies, shows, and Discovery content. If you had an HBO Max account, it automatically became a Max account.
