Cancel via Adobe Website

1

Go to your Adobe Account

Head over to account.adobe.com and sign in with your Adobe ID. If you have forgotten your password (we have all been there), use the reset link. Adobe will not let you ghost them that easily.

2

Navigate to Plans & Payment

Click on Plans & Payment (or just Plans) in the sidebar or account menu. You will see all your active Adobe subscriptions listed here -- Lightroom, Photography Plan, or whichever Adobe products have been quietly draining your bank account.

3

Click Cancel Plan on your Lightroom subscription

Find your Lightroom or Photography Plan and click Cancel Plan. Adobe will ask why you are leaving and probably try to tempt you with a discount. Stay strong if you are committed to canceling.

4

Review any early termination fees

If you are on an annual plan paid monthly, Adobe will show you any early termination fee (up to 50% of your remaining contract). Read this carefully. If you are within the first 14 days of your subscription, you can cancel fee-free.

5

Confirm your cancellation

Click through the final confirmation screens. Adobe will show you what you are losing (cloud storage, presets, etc.) and ask one more time if you are sure. Click Confirm and you are done. Check your email for a cancellation confirmation.

Heads up: Annual plans paid monthly come with an early termination fee if you cancel before the 12-month commitment is up. The fee is 50% of your remaining monthly payments. To avoid this, wait until your annual renewal date or switch to a month-to-month plan first.

Subscribed via App Store or Google Play?

If you subscribed to Lightroom through the iOS App Store or Google Play Store, you need to cancel through your device: iPhone Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions or Google Play Store > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions. Canceling through Adobe directly will not stop App Store billing.

What Happens After You Cancel Adobe Lightroom?

Access continues until your billing period ends

You keep full Lightroom access until the end of your current billing cycle. All editing tools, presets, and cloud storage remain available until that date.

Cloud storage drops to 2GB

Your cloud storage shrinks from 1TB (or 20GB on the Photography Plan) to just 2GB. If you have more than 2GB of photos stored, download them before your subscription ends or they may become inaccessible.

Premium editing tools become unavailable

Features like Healing Brush, Masking, and Raw editing are locked behind the paid tier. You can still view and export your existing edits but cannot make new premium adjustments.

Lightroom Classic and Photoshop also deactivate (Photography Plan)

If you were on the Photography Plan, canceling also removes access to Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. Make sure to export any Photoshop projects too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose my photos if I cancel Adobe Lightroom?

Your photos in Lightroom cloud remain accessible for a limited time, but your cloud storage drops to 2GB. If you exceed that, Adobe may delete excess files after a grace period. Download everything to your computer before canceling -- treat it like packing before a move.

Is there an early termination fee for canceling Lightroom?

If you are on an annual plan (paid monthly), yes. Adobe charges 50% of your remaining contract balance. If you are on a true month-to-month plan or cancel within 14 days of subscribing, there is no fee. Pro tip: if you are close to your renewal date, it might be cheaper to just wait.

Can I switch to a cheaper Adobe plan instead of canceling?

Absolutely. During the cancellation process, Adobe often offers discounts or lets you switch to a cheaper plan. The Photography Plan at $9.99/mo gives you Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop -- which is honestly a solid deal if you use any two of those apps.

What is the difference between Lightroom and Lightroom Classic?

Lightroom (cloud-based) stores photos online and syncs across devices. Lightroom Classic stores files locally on your computer with more advanced features. Both are included in the Photography Plan, but the standalone Lightroom subscription only includes cloud-based Lightroom.

Can I use Lightroom for free after canceling?

Sort of. Lightroom reverts to a free tier with limited editing tools and 2GB of cloud storage. You can still import, organize, and export photos, but the premium editing features (like advanced masking and healing) are locked. It is more of a photo viewer at that point.
