What Happens After You Cancel Netlify?
Sites stay deployed on the free tier
Your websites remain live and accessible. The free Starter plan includes 100GB bandwidth per month and 300 build minutes, which is sufficient for most personal and small projects.
Analytics and team features removed
You will lose access to Netlify Analytics, background functions, and additional team member seats. Build notifications and deploy previews continue on the free plan.
Custom domains keep working
Custom domains and HTTPS certificates continue to work on the free plan. Your site URLs and SSL configuration remain unchanged after downgrading.
Git integration stays connected
Your GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket integration continues working. Auto-deploys on push remain active on the free plan, so your CI/CD workflow is not interrupted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Netlify have a free plan?
Yes. The Netlify Starter plan is free and includes 100GB bandwidth, 300 build minutes, serverless functions, and one team member. Most personal projects fit comfortably within these limits.
Will my site go offline if I downgrade?
No. Your site stays online when you downgrade. However, if you exceed the free plan's bandwidth limit (100GB/month), Netlify may throttle or disable your site until the next billing period.
Can I get a refund from Netlify?
Netlify does not typically provide prorated refunds. Your paid features remain active until the end of the billing period. Contact Netlify support for exceptional circumstances.
What happens to my Netlify Functions?
Serverless functions continue to work on the free plan with a limit of 125,000 invocations per month. Background functions (async) are a Pro-only feature and will stop working.
What are alternatives to Netlify?
Popular alternatives include Vercel (great for Next.js), Cloudflare Pages (generous free tier), GitHub Pages (static sites), and Render (full-stack). Many offer competitive free tiers.
