What Happens After You Cancel PlayStation Plus?
You keep access until your billing period ends
PlayStation Plus benefits remain active until the end of your current paid period. You can continue playing online, downloading monthly games, and using cloud storage until that date.
Monthly games become locked
All games you claimed through the monthly free games program become inaccessible once your subscription expires. They remain in your library, though — if you resubscribe later, you can play them again without re-purchasing.
Cloud saves are kept for about 6 months
Your cloud save data is not deleted immediately. Sony retains cloud saves for approximately six months after your subscription ends. Resubscribing within that window restores full access. After six months, the data may be permanently deleted.
Online multiplayer is disabled
Without PlayStation Plus, you lose access to online multiplayer for paid games. Free-to-play titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Genshin Impact do not require PS Plus for online play. Games you purchased and discounted items you bought are yours to keep permanently.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a refund for PlayStation Plus?
Sony may issue a prorated refund if you cancel within 14 days of purchase, provided you have not used the service extensively. Outside the 14-day window, refunds are generally not offered. Contact PlayStation Support for specific cases or if you believe you are eligible.
Do I lose my free monthly games if I cancel?
Yes. Once your PS Plus subscription expires, all monthly games you claimed become locked. However, they stay in your library. If you resubscribe at any point in the future, you regain access to every monthly game you previously claimed, without needing to purchase them again.
What happens to my cloud saves after canceling?
Cloud saves remain on Sony's servers for approximately six months after cancellation. If you resubscribe within that time, your saves are fully restored. To be safe, consider downloading your important saves to your console's local storage before your subscription expires.
Can I downgrade from Premium to Essential instead of canceling?
Sony does not currently allow mid-term downgrades between PS Plus tiers. You would need to let your current subscription expire and then resubscribe at a lower tier. Plan your cancellation timing accordingly to avoid paying for features you do not need.
Can I cancel PS Plus from the PlayStation mobile app?
Yes. Open the PlayStation App on your phone, tap your profile icon, go to Account Settings, then Subscription Management. From there you can turn off auto-renewal for your PlayStation Plus subscription. This works for both iOS and Android versions of the app.
