Method 1: Cancel on ring.com
Log in to your Ring account
Go to ring.com and click Log In. Use the email and password associated with your Ring account. You can also manage your account through the Ring app, but the website gives you the clearest view of your subscription.
Navigate to Account settings
Click on Account in the top navigation, then find the Subscriptions section. Here you will see your Ring Protect plan (Basic, Plus, or Pro), how many devices are covered, and your next billing date.
Click Cancel Subscription
Click Cancel Plan or Cancel Subscription next to your Ring Protect plan. Ring may offer a downgrade option. If you want to fully cancel, decline any retention offers and confirm your cancellation.
Verify and save confirmation
Check for a confirmation email from Ring. Screenshot the cancellation page. Your Ring Protect features (video recording, sharing) continue until the end of your current billing period. After that, your cameras still show live video but will not save recordings.
Method 2: Cancel via the Ring App
Open the Ring app
Open the Ring app on your phone, tap the menu (three lines), then tap Account. Navigate to Subscriptions to see your active Ring Protect plan and manage it.
Cancel your plan
Tap on your active subscription and select Cancel Plan. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you need to cancel through those platforms instead.
Pro Tip: Check Where You Subscribed
If you subscribed to Ring Protect through Amazon, the Apple App Store, or Google Play, you must cancel through that platform -- not through ring.com. Check your email receipts to figure out where the charge comes from. Amazon subscribers should go to Amazon > Account > Memberships & Subscriptions.
What Happens After You Cancel Ring Protect?
Live view still works
Your Ring cameras and doorbells still show live video. You can see who is at your door in real-time. The hardware itself is not affected by canceling the subscription.
Video recording stops
After your plan expires, Ring cameras will no longer save video recordings. You lose access to your video history and will not get motion-triggered video clips saved to the cloud.
Snapshot Capture stops
The Snapshot Capture feature that takes periodic photos throughout the day stops working. You also lose the ability to share videos with neighbors through the Ring app.
Smart home integrations limited
Some advanced features like person detection, package alerts, and Alexa Greetings require Ring Protect. These stop working, though basic motion detection alerts still function.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a refund from Ring?
Ring may offer refunds if you contact Amazon customer service (Ring is owned by Amazon). If you recently renewed and want a refund, reach out promptly. Annual plan subscribers have better chances of getting a pro-rated refund than monthly subscribers.
Do my Ring cameras still work without a subscription?
Yes, your Ring cameras and doorbells still provide live video and two-way audio. You just lose cloud video recording, video history, and some smart features. The hardware is yours and fully functional without a plan.
How do I cancel Ring Protect from Amazon?
Go to Amazon.com, click Account & Lists, then Memberships & Subscriptions. Find Ring Protect and cancel from there. This is the only way to cancel if you originally subscribed through Amazon.
Can I downgrade my Ring Protect plan?
Yes, you can switch between Basic, Plus, and Pro plans. If cost is the issue, downgrading to Basic ($3.99/mo for one device) might be a better option than canceling entirely.
