Important: Cancel through the same platform you subscribed

You must cancel Strava through the same platform you originally used to subscribe. If you signed up through Apple or Google Play, you cannot cancel on the Strava website. The website cancellation only works for subscriptions made directly through Strava.

What Happens After You Cancel Strava?

Your activity data is kept

All your recorded activities, including rides, runs, swims, and hikes, remain on your free Strava account. Your activity history, GPS data, and personal records are not deleted when you downgrade from a paid subscription.

You lose segment leaderboards and route tools

Without a paid subscription, you lose access to segment leaderboards, detailed segment analysis, route planning and creation tools, matched runs comparison, and filtered leaderboards by age and weight category. The free tier only shows limited segment data.

Beacon safety feature is deactivated

The Beacon feature, which shares your real-time location with selected contacts during activities, is a paid feature. After canceling, Beacon will no longer be available. If safety tracking is important to you, consider this before canceling.

Your account reverts to the free tier

Your account is not deleted. It simply reverts to the free Strava tier. You can still record activities, follow friends, give kudos, and see your feed. You can resubscribe at any time to regain access to premium features instantly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose my activity data if I cancel Strava?

No. All your recorded activities, GPS data, personal records, and photos remain on your free Strava account. Canceling only removes access to premium analysis and tools. Your data is safe and will be there if you decide to resubscribe later.

What features do I keep on the free tier?

With the free Strava account, you can still record and upload activities, follow athletes and see their activities, give and receive kudos, join clubs, view your basic activity stats, and share activities to social media. The main losses are segment leaderboards, route tools, Beacon, and advanced analytics.

Can I get a refund for my Strava subscription?

Strava does not offer refunds for partial billing periods. If you subscribed directly through Strava, your access continues until the end of the current billing cycle. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, refund requests must go through those platforms.

How do I know where I subscribed from?

Go to your Strava Settings and look at your subscription details. If it says "Manage on Apple" or "Manage on Google Play," you subscribed through those platforms. If it shows a cancel button directly on the Strava website, you subscribed through Strava directly.

Can I cancel before my annual plan renews?

Yes. You should cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged for the next period. If you are on an annual plan, you can cancel at any point and you will retain access until the end of the year you paid for. You will not be charged for the following year.
