Manage App Store Subscriptions

Everything you need to know about finding, managing, and canceling subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store on your iPhone.

ℹ️

Important: App Store vs Direct Billing

Not all app subscriptions go through the App Store. If you subscribed through an app's website (like Netflix.com), you must cancel there-not through Apple. This guide covers subscriptions billed through Apple's App Store.

How to Find Your App Store Subscriptions

Open Settings

Open the Settings app on your iPhone (the gray gear icon).

Tap Your Name

At the very top of Settings, tap your name (your Apple ID). This opens your Apple ID settings.

3

Tap Subscriptions

Tap Subscriptions. You'll see a list of all active and expired subscriptions tied to your Apple ID.

Alternative Method: Through App Store

  1. 1. Open the App Store app
  2. 2. Tap your profile picture in the top right

Common Questions

Why can't I find a subscription in my Apple ID?

If a subscription doesn't appear, it might be: (1) billed directly by the company (not through Apple), (2) under a different Apple ID, (3) a free app with no subscription, or (4) already cancelled and expired. Check your email for billing receipts to identify the source.

Can I get a refund for an App Store subscription?

Apple generally doesn't refund subscriptions, but you can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Refunds are granted on a case-by-case basis, especially for accidental purchases or if the app doesn't work as advertised. Act quickly-requests within 48 hours have better success rates.

What happens if I delete the app?

Deleting an app does NOT cancel its subscription. You'll continue to be charged. Always cancel through Settings → Subscriptions before deleting an app.

Can I change my subscription plan?

Yes. In the subscription details, you'll see available plans. Tap a different plan to switch. Upgrades typically take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.

How do I see expired subscriptions?

In Settings → Subscriptions, scroll down past "Active" to see "Expired" subscriptions. These show what you've previously subscribed to and can help you identify old charges.

App Store Subscriptions & Family Sharing

Some App Store subscriptions can be shared with up to 6 family members through Family Sharing. Here's what to know:

  • Apple One bundles (iCloud+, Apple Music, TV+, etc.) are designed for family sharing
  • Many third-party apps now support family sharing-check the subscription details
  • Individual plans (like single-user Netflix through Apple) typically can't be shared

To enable Family Sharing: Settings → [Your Name] → Family Sharing → Set Up Your Family.

The Limitation: Not All Subscriptions Are Here

Apple's subscription manager only shows App Store purchases. But most people have subscriptions from many sources:

  • • Website signups (Netflix.com, Spotify.com)
  • • Google Play purchases (if you have Android devices)
  • • Direct billing (gyms, magazines, SaaS tools)
  • • PayPal recurring payments
  • • Credit card direct debits

To see everything in one place, you need a dedicated subscription tracker that pulls from all sources-not just Apple.
