You're Charged

Subscription companies send renewal notices after they charge you-by design. Subcut reminds you before, so you can cancel what you don't want.

Why Companies Don't Remind You

Subscription companies are smart about renewals. They know:

Reminder emails go to Promotions. Gmail, Outlook, and Apple Mail filter billing emails out of your primary inbox. You never see them.
Notices come after the charge. "Your subscription has been renewed" means it's already too late. You're now seeking a refund, not canceling.
Annual renewals are invisible. That $139 charge appears once a year. Easy to forget. Easy to keep paying.

An independent tracker like Subcut has no reason to hide renewals from you. Our goal is the opposite-make sure you never miss one.

Smart Reminder Strategies

1d

1 Day Before

Best for subscriptions you're sure you want. A quick heads-up that a charge is coming tomorrow.

1w

1 Week Before

Great for annual subscriptions. Gives you time to evaluate if you still need it and cancel if not.

3d

3 Days Before (Free Trials)

Perfect for trials. Enough time to cancel, but close enough that you won't forget again.

2x

Multiple Reminders

For important renewals, set both a 1-week and 1-day reminder. Two chances to catch it.

Reminder Questions

How do subscription renewal reminders work?

Subcut sends push notifications to your iPhone before any subscription renews. You choose the timing-1 day before, 1 week before, or custom. The notification tells you which subscription is renewing, how much it costs, and gives you a direct link to cancel if you want.

Why don't subscription companies remind you before charging?

Because they don't want you to cancel. Auto-renewal works in their favor-the more you forget, the longer they keep charging. Some send emails, but they're often buried in Promotions tabs or designed to be easy to miss. An independent tracker like Subcut has no incentive to hide renewals from you.

Can I set different reminder times for different subscriptions?

Yes. In Subcut, each subscription can have its own reminder schedule. You might want a 1-week heads-up for annual subscriptions (like Amazon Prime) but just a 1-day reminder for monthly services you definitely want to keep. You can also set multiple reminders for important renewals.

Do reminders work for free trials?

Yes-this is one of the best uses. When you add a free trial to Subcut, set a reminder for 2-3 days before it ends. You'll get notified in time to cancel before it converts to paid, or you can consciously decide to keep it.
