How to Cancel Apple One (Without Losing Your iCloud Data)
Most people who try to cancel Apple One do not actually want to cancel Apple One. They want to drop everything except iCloud+. There is a screen inside the cancel flow that does exactly that, and it is the entire reason this page exists.
Read this before you tap Cancel
The hidden third button: "Choose Individual Services"
When you tap Apple One inside Subscriptions, Apple shows three options stacked together. Most people read the top one (See All Plans) and the bottom one (Cancel All Services) and miss the one in the middle. The middle one is the answer to the question almost everyone has.
Choose Individual Services ends your Apple One bundle and, in the same flow, lets you keep any of its included services as standalone subscriptions. Keep iCloud+ 2TB at $9.99/mo. Drop the rest. Done in one screen. No sync gap. No re-subscribing later.
If you came here to save money but still need cloud storage, you almost certainly want this option, not Cancel All Services. We will get to the actual cancel steps in a minute. First, the table.
Three plans, three cancel paths
Cancel paths differ in who can press the button and what evaporates when they do. US pricing shown. Apple One is monthly-only; there is no annual plan to cancel.
| Plan | What is inside | Standalone alternative | Who can cancel | What gets cut |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual $19.95/mo |
Music, TV+, Arcade, 50GB iCloud+ | iCloud+ 50GB: $0.99/mo Music: $10.99/mo TV+: $9.99/mo Arcade: $6.99/mo |
The account holder | Your services only |
| Family $25.95/mo |
Music, TV+, Arcade, 200GB iCloud+, shared with up to 5 family members | iCloud+ 200GB: $2.99/mo Music Family: $16.99/mo TV+ and Arcade: see above |
Family Organizer only | All 6 members lose every service at month end |
| Premier $37.95/mo |
Everything in Family, plus News+, Fitness+, and 2TB iCloud+ | iCloud+ 2TB: $9.99/mo News+: $12.99/mo Fitness+: $9.99/mo |
Family Organizer only | All 6 members lose all 6 services, including the 2TB cloud |
Pricing per Apple's official Apple One page. Premier is not offered in India or any market without Apple News+; users there see only Individual and Family.
Downgrade or unbundle? Decide before you cancel
Three honest paths out of Apple One, in order of how much you keep.
Option 1 · "See All Plans"
Step down to a cheaper Apple One tier.
Premier ($37.95) to Family ($25.95) saves $144/year. Family to Individual saves another $120/year but loses sharing and drops iCloud+ from 200GB to 50GB. Tap See All Plans on the Apple One screen, pick your tier, confirm. The change applies at the next billing date.
Option 2 · "Choose Individual Services"
End the bundle but keep the one or two services you actually use.
A Premier subscriber paying $37.95 who only uses iCloud+ 2TB ($9.99) and Apple Music ($10.99) is overpaying by $17/month for stuff they never open. Choose Individual Services lets you keep both as standalone subscriptions and drop the rest in a single flow.
Option 3 · "Cancel All Services"
Clean break, nothing kept.
Right call if you have moved to Spotify, do not store anything in iCloud beyond contacts and calendars (which fit in the free 5GB), and never opened Fitness+. Read the iCloud warning below before you do this on Premier or Family.
Highest-stakes gotcha on this page
The iCloud sync gap will email you, then stop backing up
Apple One Premier comes with 2TB of iCloud+. The free Apple ID tier is 5GB. If you cancel Premier outright and you have 47GB of Photos, iMessage attachments, and old device backups, here is what happens the moment the billing period ends, per Apple's own iCloud downgrade documentation:
- Apple emails you that you are over the storage limit.
- iCloud stops syncing new Photos, iMessages, and Notes.
- Device backups stop completing.
- Files already in iCloud Drive stay where they are. Nothing is deleted right away.
The fix is not to cancel and then re-subscribe to a standalone iCloud+ tier (that creates the gap). The fix is to tap Choose Individual Services during the cancel flow, tick iCloud+, and pick the tier you actually need (200GB at $2.99/mo or 2TB at $9.99/mo). Continuous coverage. No "over limit" email. Confirmed by the MacRumors community thread where this question gets asked roughly every month.
The shared cancel procedure (all three plans)
Same four taps on every Apple One tier. The only differences are who can press them (Individual: account holder; Family/Premier: Organizer only) and what evaporates when they do.
- If on Family or Premier, confirm you are the Organizer. Settings → your name → Family. The Organizer is labelled. Non-organizers cannot cancel; their only solo option is leaving Family Sharing entirely.
- If anyone has iCloud over 5GB, warn them first. When the billing period ends, every member crosses the free tier at the same instant. They need time to clear space or sign up for standalone iCloud+ at $2.99 (200GB).
- Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Apple One. On Mac: System Settings → your name → Media and Purchases → Manage. Same screen.
- Pick your option: See All Plans (downgrade), Choose Individual Services (unbundle, keep what you use), or Cancel All Services (clean break). Confirm. Access ends at the next billing date.
If the downgrade options are greyed out
Apple Community threads document a recurring bug where See All Plans renders non-interactive. Contact Apple Support to switch on the back end. Do not cancel outright and re-subscribe; that recreates the sync-gap problem.
Family math worth running: if anyone still uses Apple Music heavily, stepping Family Apple One down to Individual ($19.95) plus Apple Music Family ($16.99) is $36.94/mo, only $1 less. Sometimes "downgrade" means almost zero savings.
Three things that bite every plan equally
Your old standalone subscriptions are gone for good
When you originally joined Apple One, any pre-existing Apple Music, TV+, or Arcade subscriptions were auto-cancelled. Apple does not auto-restore them on the way out. If you want them back, you re-subscribe inside each app at the current standalone price.
No refund, no proration, no exceptions worth waiting for
The Apple Media Services Terms say "All Transactions are final." Apple One bills monthly only, so the practical effect is you keep what you paid for through end-of-period. There is no early-termination fee either, since there is no annual contract. Full TOS here.
"Cancel annual Apple One" is not a thing
Apple One has no annual billing option anywhere in the world. If you searched for that exact phrase, it is because another guide invented a plan that does not exist. There is also no auto-discount for staying long, no founder rate, no grandfathered pricing. The price you see is the price everyone pays.
Questions people actually ask
Will cancelling Apple One delete my iCloud files?
Not immediately. Files in iCloud Drive stay where they are. But if your usage is over the free 5GB tier, syncing and new backups stop the day the bundle ends. The clean fix is to use Choose Individual Services and tick a standalone iCloud+ tier before the cancellation date arrives.
I am on a Family plan but not the Organizer. How do I cancel?
You cannot. Apple's permissions structure gives full control of the Family or Premier Apple One plan to one person, the Organizer. Your only solo option is to leave the Family Sharing group (which removes you from every shared service, not just Apple One). Ask the Organizer to cancel or downgrade.
Can I downgrade Apple One mid-month?
You can press the button mid-month, but the change only applies at the next billing date. Apple keeps you on the higher tier (with all the included services) until then. No prorated refund for the difference.
If I cancel today, when does the charge actually stop?
At the end of your current billing period, which is the next charge date Apple shows on the Apple One screen. Apple's terms state cards are charged up to 24 hours before the period starts, so cancel at least a day before that date to skip the next charge.
I cancelled. Why is my old standalone Apple Music subscription not back?
It was cancelled when you joined Apple One and Apple does not auto-restore prior subscriptions. Re-subscribe inside the Music app. Note that the standalone price for Apple Music is now $10.99/month (it was $9.99 before the 2024 price bump), so the savings versus Apple One Individual are smaller than they used to be.
If you are disaggregating the bundle
Now that Apple One is sorted, what about the other 11 charges?
The average person finds two to four forgotten subscriptions the first time they actually look. Subcut shows every recurring charge on your card in about 60 seconds, no bank login required.
