How to cancel Calm without getting double-billed

Calm's own support article 360037871774 admits that buying the $499.99 Lifetime plan does not cancel your existing recurring subscription. Calm wrote that article because it happens enough that they had to. So before the three clicks, read the gotcha.

The Lifetime + recurring trap, in Calm's own words

If you upgraded to Calm Lifetime while you had an active monthly or annual plan, the recurring charge keeps going. Calm says it plainly: "if you have an active subscription, you must cancel it separately." One Trustpilot reviewer in 2025 reported being billed the annual renewal anyway, despite owning Lifetime. The BBB has rated Calm F, with post-cancellation billing the most common complaint. See the BBB complaint pattern.

Translation: cancelling Calm takes two checks, not one. Cancel the recurring sub, then verify next month's bank statement.

Step 1: find out who's actually charging you

Calm runs through five billing platforms. Cancelling on the wrong one does literally nothing, and it is the #1 complaint pattern at the BBB. Open your most recent Calm email receipt. The sender tells you the platform:

Receipt from Calm.com

Cancel at calm.com/cancel-subscription

Receipt from Apple / iTunes

Cancel in iOS Settings, your name, Subscriptions

Receipt from Google Play

Cancel in Play Store, profile, Payments & subscriptions

Receipt from Samsung / Galaxy Store

Cancel in Galaxy Store, My Apps, Receipts, Calm

Got Calm through Aetna, Kaiser, UHC, Cigna, Lyft, or your employer?

No receipt and no cancel button. Access is controlled by the sponsor. Email your HR or benefits team. This does not cancel a separate Calm Premium subscription you bought yourself, which is exactly how people end up paying for both.

Step 2: the actual cancel (direct subscribers)

  1. 1

Sign in at calm.com/cancel-subscription. The direct URL drops you past the profile menu.

  2. 2

Click Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription. Per 19pine.ai's documented walkthrough, Calm may slip a discount offer in front of you. Click through it.

  3. 3

Confirm. Calm emails a receipt. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, the cancel didn't save. Do it again. The email is your evidence if you have to dispute a charge later.

The 24-hour rule: cancel at least a day before your renewal date or you will be charged for the next period. Same rule applies to free trials, and it is the timing that catches most people out.

When the charge actually stops

Calm keeps premium content live until the end of the period you already paid for. After that, the account reverts to the free tier, but your meditation history, streak, and progress stay intact. No prorated refund for unused months.

Given the BBB pattern, do the boring thing: check your bank statement next month and the month after. Calm's support team has a template reply for "charged after cancelling," which tells you everything.

Refund cheat sheet

  • Annual, bought on calm.com or Google Play: 30 days from purchase, by emailing Calm support. After day 30, no refund.
  • Annual, bought on Apple: Calm cannot help. Use reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple usually responds within 48 hours.
  • Monthly, Family plan, Lifetime, gift cards: non-refundable per Calm's refund policy. Lifetime in particular is marked "Final Sale."

Questions people actually ask about Calm

I bought Lifetime. Why is Calm still charging me for the annual plan?

Because buying Lifetime does not cancel your existing recurring sub. Calm documents this themselves in support article 360037871774. Cancel the recurring plan separately on whatever platform charges it, then check your statement next month.

Can I get a refund on my annual Calm plan?

Only if you bought it on calm.com or Google Play, only within 30 days of purchase, and only by emailing Calm support. Apple purchases go through reportaproblem.apple.com instead. Monthly, Family, Lifetime, and gift cards are all marked non-refundable.

My employer or health insurer gave me Calm. How do I cancel that?

You cannot self-cancel. Calm Health access granted by Aetna, Kaiser, UHC, Cigna, Lyft, eBay, or any employer is controlled by the sponsor. Email your HR or benefits team. Critically, this is a separate product from Calm Premium, so cancelling one does nothing to the other.

Why was I charged $48.99 by Calm when I never signed up?

Calm runs partner marketing offers that bundle a Calm trial onto unrelated online purchases. Several 2025 BBB complaints describe this exact pattern. Dispute the charge with your bank as unauthorised recurring billing, then cancel any active Calm account at calm.com/cancel-subscription.

Now that Calm is off the list, what else is lurking?

The average person finds two to four forgotten subscriptions the first time they actually look. Subcut shows every recurring charge on your card in about 60 seconds, no bank login required.
