How to Cancel Your
Descript Subscription
Cancel or downgrade your Descript Pro or Business plan in about 3 minutes. Here are the exact steps to switch back to the Free plan.

Cancel Descript on the Website
Sign in to Descript
Go to descript.com and sign in with the account that holds your paid subscription. Make sure you are logged in as the workspace owner or admin, as only the account holder can manage billing.
Open Workspace Settings
Click your workspace name or profile avatar in the top-left corner of the dashboard. From the dropdown, select Settings. This opens the workspace settings panel.
Go to the Billing Tab
In the Settings panel, click on the Billing tab. Here you will see your current plan (Pro, Business, or Enterprise), your billing cycle, and payment method.
Click Change Plan
Click the Change Plan or Manage Plan button. You will see the available plan options. Select the Free plan to downgrade. Descript treats cancellation as a downgrade to Free rather than a full account deletion.
Confirm Your Downgrade
Descript may show you a summary of features you will lose and may offer a discounted rate to stay. If you want to proceed, click Confirm or Downgrade to Free. You will receive a confirmation email once the change is processed.
Subscribed Through Apple or Google?
If you signed up for Descript through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you need to cancel through those platforms instead. The Descript website may not show billing options in this case.

- 1. Open Settings on your iPhone
- 2. Tap your name at the top (Apple Account)
- 3. Tap Subscriptions
- 4. Tap Descript in the list
- 5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm
Cancel via Android
- 1. Open the Google Play Store app
- 2. Tap your profile icon (top right)
- 3. Tap Payments & subscriptions
- 4. Tap Subscriptions then Descript
- 5. Tap Cancel subscription and confirm
What Happens After You Cancel Descript?
Paid features last until your billing period ends
After downgrading, you retain access to Pro or Business features until the end of your current billing cycle. You will not be charged again after that date.
Your projects are preserved
Existing projects stay in your workspace on the Free plan. However, you will be limited to 1 watermark-free export per month and will lose access to features like filler word removal, Studio Sound, and AI-powered editing tools.
Transcription hours are reduced
On the Free plan, you get a limited number of transcription hours per month. Any unused transcription hours from your paid plan do not carry over to the Free tier.
You can re-upgrade anytime
Upgrading back to a paid plan is straightforward. Go to Settings, then Billing, and select the plan you want. Your workspace and projects will be intact.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose my Descript projects if I cancel?
No. Your existing projects remain in your workspace on the Free plan. You can still view and edit them, but premium features like AI editing tools and unlimited exports will be restricted.
Does Descript offer refunds?
Descript generally does not offer refunds for partial billing periods. If you believe you were charged in error or have extenuating circumstances, you can contact Descript support to request a review.
What is the difference between canceling and deleting my account?
Canceling your subscription downgrades you to the Free plan but keeps your account and projects. Deleting your account permanently removes all data. To delete your account entirely, you need to contact Descript support.
Can I export my projects before canceling?
Yes. Before downgrading, you should export any projects you need in your preferred format. On the Free plan, exports may include a Descript watermark, so exporting while you still have your paid plan is recommended.
I am on an annual plan. Can I cancel mid-year?
You can downgrade at any time, but annual plans are typically non-refundable. Your paid features will remain active until the end of your annual billing period. After that, your account will switch to the Free plan.
