Heads Up: eHarmony Has Auto-Renewing Contracts
eHarmony is infamous for its auto-renewing subscription model. Your plan will automatically renew at the end of each term (often at a higher rate) unless you actively cancel before the renewal date. Canceling does not stop your current term early. It only prevents the next renewal. Mark your renewal date and cancel well in advance to avoid surprise charges.
Method 1: Cancel eHarmony on the Website
Log in to eHarmony
Go to eharmony.com and sign in with your email and password. Make sure you are on the account with the active subscription. If you have multiple accounts (no judgment), check them all.
Go to your eHarmony profile settings
Click on your profile photo or the menu icon. Navigate to My Account or look for a gear icon. eHarmony buries this a bit, so you may need to poke around in the profile dropdown to find it.
Find Subscription or Billing
Look for a Subscription, Billing, or Payment section. This is where you will find your plan details, renewal date, and the option to manage your subscription. Sometimes it is buried a few clicks deep.
Cancel auto-renewal
Look for Cancel Auto-Renewal or Cancel Subscription. eHarmony will throw retention offers at you. They might offer a discount, a pause, or a plan change. If you are done, keep clicking through until you finalize the cancellation. If you do not see a cancel option online, you will need to call (see Method 2).
Get and save confirmation
Screenshot the confirmation page and check your email for a cancellation confirmation. Keep this as proof. Seriously, save this email. eHarmony auto-renewal disputes are common, and you will want documentation.
Method 2: Cancel eHarmony by Phone
If you cannot find the cancel button online (which happens more often than it should), or if you just want the satisfaction of telling a human you are leaving, call eHarmony customer service. This may actually be the most reliable method.
Call eHarmony customer service
Visit the eHarmony help or contact page for their current customer service number. Have your account email and any order details ready. Be prepared for a potential wait and some retention attempts. They will try to keep you.
Be firm about canceling
Tell the representative you want to cancel your subscription and stop auto-renewal. They will likely offer discounts, plan changes, or a pause. If you want out, politely but firmly say no. Do not get talked into a plan change unless you actually want one.
Get written confirmation
Ask for a confirmation number and email before hanging up. This is critical. Without written proof, you may find yourself fighting an unexpected charge months later. Keep this somewhere safe.
Method 3: Cancel Through App Store or Google Play
If you subscribed through the eHarmony mobile app, your billing might be managed by Apple or Google. Check your phone subscriptions first.

What Happens After You Cancel eHarmony?
You keep access until your current term ends
Canceling stops auto-renewal but does not end your current subscription early. You keep all paid features until your term expires. Use them while you have got them.
Your profile stays visible
Your profile remains on eHarmony after canceling. Other users can still see it. If you want to disappear completely, you need to separately hide or delete your profile in the settings.
You lose the ability to message matches
On the free plan, you can see your matches but cannot read or send messages. This is eHarmony's biggest limitation on the free tier and their strongest incentive to resubscribe.
Watch for re-enrollment
Double-check your bank statements after your renewal date. Some users have reported unexpected charges even after canceling. Having that confirmation email saved is your best protection.
Free Alternatives to eHarmony
Hinge (Free Tier)
Relationship-focused dating app with a generous free tier. Prompts and detailed profiles help you find deeper connections without the eHarmony price tag.
OkCupid (Free Tier)
Detailed match questions help you find compatible people. The free tier lets you browse, match, and message. It is one of the most full-featured free dating apps.
Bumble (Free Tier)
Women make the first move. The free tier includes full matching and messaging. Premium add-ons are nice but definitely not needed to make meaningful connections.
Real Life
Join a club, take a class, volunteer, go to community events. Meeting people through shared activities leads to more natural connections than any algorithm. And the subscription fee is zero.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is eHarmony so hard to cancel?
eHarmony uses auto-renewing contracts with cancellation processes that vary by plan type and when you signed up. Some plans require a phone call to cancel. The company makes significantly more revenue from auto-renewals, so they do not exactly make it a one-click process. Patience and persistence are key.
Can I get a refund from eHarmony?
eHarmony has a 3-day right of withdrawal in some jurisdictions. Outside of that window, refunds are generally not available. If you feel you were charged unfairly or after canceling, contact customer service and document everything. You can also dispute the charge with your credit card company as a last resort.
Does canceling eHarmony delete my profile?
No. Canceling your subscription and deleting your profile are separate actions. After canceling, your profile stays visible on the free plan. If you want to fully remove yourself, go to Account Settings and look for the option to delete or hide your profile.
I canceled but I was still charged. What do I do?
This is unfortunately common with eHarmony. First, check your confirmation email to verify the cancellation went through. Then contact eHarmony customer support with your cancellation proof. If they will not help, you can dispute the charge with your bank or credit card company.
Can I pause my eHarmony subscription?
eHarmony sometimes offers the option to pause or put your subscription on hold during the cancellation process. If you are not sure about canceling permanently, this could be a good middle ground. However, make sure you understand when the pause ends and whether auto-renewal kicks back in.
