How to Cancel MyFitnessPal Premium

Three steps. About 90 seconds. The hard part isn't the steps, it's doing them in the right place.

The 10-second diagnostic

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Does MyFitnessPal show up?

  • Yes. Apple is billing you. Cancel in iPhone Settings. The MFP app and support team cannot do it for you.
  • No. You signed up on the web. Cancel at myfitnesspal.com.

Android: same logic with Google Play. Cancel where the receipt lives. That single confusion drives most "I cancelled but was still charged" threads on the Apple Community.

The cancel path for each platform

W

Web (myfitnesspal.com)

Log in, go to My Home, then Premium, then Subscription Settings (upper right). Flip Auto-Renewal to Off. You keep Premium through the end of the paid period.

iOS

iOS (App Store)

Settings (the gear icon, not the MFP app) → your Apple ID → SubscriptionsMyFitnessPalCancel Subscription. Apple emails confirmation and shows the end date.

A

Android (Google Play)

Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptionsSubscriptions → MyFitnessPal → Cancel subscription.

MFP's own cancel help page confirms the three paths don't cross over.

When the charge actually stops

Premium runs until the end of your paid period. No prorated refund. TOS Section 3: "All purchases of Premium Services are final and non-refundable." EU users get a 14-day window. Apple and Google run their own refund processes, so an App Store request can succeed even after MFP support says no.

After the period ends, you drop to the free tier. Diary, weigh-ins, custom foods, and saved recipes stay. What you lose:

  • Barcode scanner (paywalled October 2022)
  • Custom Meal Planner (Premium+ only)
  • Ad-free browsing

One thing MyFitnessPal doesn't tell you

If you ever subscribed twice, you're still being charged twice.

Plenty of users have two active MFP subscriptions on different platforms. Usual story: signed up on the web in 2019, forgot, resubscribed in the iPhone app a year later. Both bill independently. If your statements show two MFP charges in a month, check both the web account and your Apple ID / Google Play list.

Legacy note: Francisco Partners bought MFP from Under Armour for $345M in October 2020. MapMyRun (still Under Armour) is a separate subscription on a separate billing rail.

Why a lot of people are cancelling right now

In August 2022, MFP put the barcode scanner (built on community-contributed data) behind the Premium paywall. That drove churn to Cronometer. Add a 2018 breach (150 million accounts, sent to individual arbitration) and a 2025 tracking-cookie class action that survived dismissal in California federal court. None of it affects how you cancel. It does affect whether you want to.

Questions people actually ask

I cancelled at myfitnesspal.com but I'm still being charged. Why?

You signed up through the App Store or Google Play, not the web. MFP cannot cancel an Apple or Google subscription on its end. Run the diagnostic above. Whichever store shows MyFitnessPal in its subscriptions list is where the cancel has to happen.

I deleted the app. Doesn't that cancel the subscription?

No. Uninstalling does nothing to billing, and even deleting your MFP account doesn't auto-cancel (TOS Section 1 is explicit). The subscription is a separate record on whichever platform holds the receipt.

How early do I need to cancel a free trial?

The TOS says at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Support replies sometimes cite up to 72 hours for processing, so 2 to 3 days early is the safe answer. Your trial features keep working through the full trial either way.

Will I lose my food diary if I cancel?

No. You drop to the free tier and every log, weigh-in, recipe, and goal stays. You lose barcode scanning, Custom Meal Planner (Premium+), and the ad-free view.

Now that MyFitnessPal is off the list, what else is lurking?

The web-vs-App-Store split that hides MFP charges hides plenty of other charges too. Subcut shows every recurring charge on your card in about 60 seconds, no bank login required.
