How to cancel The Athletic in 2026 (standalone vs. NYT bundle: they cancel differently)

The Athletic has three completely different cancel paths and most readers do not know which one is theirs. Standalone web subscribers click through a documented dark-pattern funnel with a $24/year counter-offer. NYT All Access subscribers cannot remove The Athletic alone (cancel everything or phone NYT). Path 2: NYT All Access bundle

You cannot remove The Athletic alone from the bundle

NYT acquired The Athletic in February 2022 and folded it into All Access. There is no checkbox to opt out, no "All Access without sports" tier. Tapped subscribe inside the iOS or Android app? Apple or Google owns the billing relationship. The Athletic web cancel will not touch it.
