Cancel X Premium on the Website

1

Log in to X

Go to x.com (formerly twitter.com) and log in with the account that has the X Premium subscription. Make sure you are using the correct account if you manage multiple profiles.

2

Go to Settings and Privacy

Click More in the left sidebar menu (the three-dot icon on mobile). Then select Settings and Support, followed by Settings and privacy. This opens the full settings panel.

3

Select Premium and Manage Subscription

In the Settings menu, click on Premium. You will see your current tier (Basic, Premium, or Premium+). Click Manage subscription. If you subscribed via the website, this will redirect you to the Stripe billing portal.

4

Click Cancel Plan

In the Stripe portal, click Cancel plan to terminate your X Premium subscription. Confirm the cancellation when prompted. Your premium features, including the blue checkmark, will remain active until the end of your current billing period.

Cancellation depends on where you subscribed

The method above only works if you subscribed through the X website. If you subscribed through the X mobile app on iOS, you must cancel through Apple's Subscriptions settings. If you subscribed through Google Play, cancel through the Play Store. The X website cannot cancel app store subscriptions.

Subscribed Through Apple or Google?

Many X Premium subscribers signed up through the X app on their phone, which means the subscription is billed through Apple or Google. If that applies to you, follow these steps instead. Note that app store prices for X Premium are typically higher than web prices.

Cancel via iPhone / iPad

  1. 1. Open Settings on your iPhone
  2. 2. Tap your name at the top (Apple Account)
  3. 3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. 4. Tap X (or Twitter) in the list
  5. 5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm

Cancel via Android

  1. 1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. 2. Tap your profile icon (top right)
  3. 3. Tap Payments & subscriptions
  4. 4. Tap Subscriptions then X
  5. 5. Tap Cancel subscription and confirm

What Happens After You Cancel X Premium?

Features remain active until billing period ends

After canceling, you keep all X Premium features including the blue checkmark, edit button, and longer posts until the end of your current billing period. You will not be charged for the next cycle.

You lose the blue verification checkmark

The blue checkmark next to your name is removed once your subscription expires. Your profile reverts to a standard X account. Previously edited posts remain edited, but you will no longer be able to edit new posts.

Post length reverts to standard limits

X Premium allows posts up to 25,000 characters. After canceling, new posts will be limited to the standard 280 characters. Your existing long posts will remain intact but cannot be edited.

Reply boost and ad reduction are removed

Premium subscribers get their replies boosted in conversations and see fewer ads. After canceling, your replies return to standard ranking and you will see the full ad load again. Premium+ subscribers lose the ad-free experience entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose my blue checkmark immediately?

No. Your blue checkmark and all premium features remain active until the end of your current billing period. Once that period expires and the subscription is not renewed, the checkmark is removed from your profile.

What is the difference between Basic, Premium, and Premium+?

Basic provides reduced ads, longer posts, the edit button, and post formatting, but no blue checkmark. Premium adds the blue checkmark, creator revenue sharing, and media studio access. Premium+ includes everything plus an ad-free experience, the largest reply boost, and access to Grok AI features.

Can I get a refund for X Premium?

No. X Premium does not offer prorated refunds for any tier, whether Basic, Premium, or Premium+. Your subscription simply continues until the end of the billing cycle. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, you can try requesting a refund through their respective platforms, but approval is at their discretion.

How do I know where I subscribed from?

Go to Settings and privacy, then Premium, then Manage subscription. If it takes you to a Stripe page, you subscribed via the web. If it tells you to manage through Apple or Google, that is where your subscription was created. Check your bank statement if you are still unsure: look for charges from X, Apple, or Google.

Will my existing long posts or edited posts be deleted?

No. Posts you made while subscribed, including long-form posts and edited posts, remain intact after canceling. However, you will not be able to create new long posts or edit existing posts once your premium features expire.
