Cancel YNAB on the Web App
Log in to YNAB
Go to app.ynab.com in your web browser and sign in with your YNAB account credentials. You must use the web app for cancellation, not the mobile app.
Open Account Settings and Find Subscription
Click your account name or email in the top-left corner of the YNAB dashboard and select Account Settings, or go directly to app.ynab.com/settings. Scroll down to the Subscription section where you will see your plan type ($14.99/month or $109/year), renewal date, and payment method.
Click Cancel Your Subscription
Scroll down on the Account Settings page until you see the Cancel your subscription button. Click it to begin the cancellation process.
Confirm and complete
Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm your cancellation. YNAB may ask why you are leaving or offer alternatives. Complete the process and look for a confirmation that your subscription will not renew.
Alternative: Cancel by Email
If you have trouble canceling through the web app, you can email [email protected] from the email address associated with your account and request cancellation. The YNAB support team is known for being responsive and can process your request.
Export Your Budget Data First
Before canceling, consider exporting your budget data. Go to your budget in the web app, click the budget name, and look for the Export Budget option. This creates a CSV file of all your transactions and budget categories that you can use in spreadsheets or other tools.

What Happens After You Cancel YNAB?
You keep access until your billing period ends
Your YNAB subscription remains active through the end of your current billing period, whether that is monthly or annual. You can continue using all features until that date.
Your data is saved
YNAB retains your budget data, accounts, transactions, and categories after cancellation. If you resubscribe later, everything will be there as you left it. You just cannot access or edit it without an active subscription.
No free tier -- you lose all access
Unlike most productivity apps, YNAB does not have a free plan or a downgraded tier. Once your subscription expires, you are fully locked out of the web app, mobile app, bank syncing, reports, and all budgeting features. Your data stays on their servers, but you cannot see or edit it without resubscribing.
Export your data before canceling
Before canceling, export your budget and transaction data as a CSV file. This allows you to keep a record of your financial history and use it in spreadsheets or other budgeting tools.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose all my budget data if I cancel YNAB?
No. Your budget data, accounts, and transaction history are saved even after you cancel. If you resubscribe in the future, you can pick up where you left off. However, you cannot view or edit your budget without an active subscription.
Can I get a refund from YNAB?
YNAB considers refund requests on a case-by-case basis. If you recently renewed and want a refund, contact their support team at [email protected]. They are known for being helpful and reasonable with refund requests.
Can I export my YNAB budget data before canceling?
Yes, and you absolutely should. In the YNAB web app, click your budget name in the top-left, then look for Export Budget. This downloads a CSV file with all your transactions, categories, and budget data. You can import it into Google Sheets, Excel, or another budgeting tool. YNAB costs $14.99/month or $109/year, and there is no free tier -- so export everything before your subscription ends.
What are free alternatives to YNAB?
Popular free budgeting alternatives include spreadsheet-based budgeting with Google Sheets or Excel, and other budgeting apps that offer free tiers. You can export your YNAB data before canceling to help with the transition to a new tool.
