YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are linked

If you have a YouTube Premium subscription, it already includes YouTube Music Premium. Canceling YouTube Premium also cancels your YouTube Music access. If you have a standalone YouTube Music Premium subscription, the steps below apply directly.

Cancel YouTube Music on the Website

1

Go to your Paid Memberships page

Visit youtube.com/paid_memberships in your web browser. Make sure you are signed in with the Google account that has the YouTube Music subscription. This page shows all your YouTube-related paid memberships.

2

Click Manage membership

Find your YouTube Music Premium (or YouTube Premium) membership in the list. Click Manage membership to expand the subscription details, including your next billing date and payment method.

3

Click Cancel

Next to your billing date, click Cancel. YouTube may offer you the option to pause your membership for up to 6 months instead of canceling outright. If you want to fully cancel, skip the pause option.

4

Confirm by clicking Yes, cancel

Click Yes, cancel to finalize your cancellation. YouTube will show a confirmation message with the date your benefits end. You will also receive a confirmation email from Google.

What Happens After You Cancel YouTube Music?

Benefits continue until your billing period ends

After canceling, you keep ad-free music, background play, and offline downloads until the end of your current billing cycle. No further charges will be made to your account.

Your library and playlists are saved

All your playlists, liked songs, uploaded music, and listening history stay in your Google account. You can still use YouTube Music for free with ads and limited features.

Offline downloads become unavailable

Any songs or albums you downloaded for offline listening will no longer be playable once your billing period ends. You will need to stream with an internet connection and will hear ads.

YouTube Premium benefits are also lost

If you had YouTube Premium (which includes YouTube Music), canceling also removes ad-free YouTube video watching, background video play, and YouTube Originals access. If you only had YouTube Music Premium, regular YouTube is not affected.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is YouTube Music the same as YouTube Premium?

They are related but different subscriptions. YouTube Premium is the higher-tier plan that includes ad-free YouTube videos, background play, and YouTube Music Premium as a bundled benefit. YouTube Music Premium is a standalone, lower-cost plan that only covers the music app. If you have YouTube Premium, you already have YouTube Music Premium included.

Can I pause my YouTube Music subscription instead of canceling?

Yes. When you go through the cancellation flow, YouTube will offer you the option to pause your membership for up to 6 months. During the pause, you will not be charged and will not have Premium features. Billing resumes automatically when the pause ends unless you cancel during that time.

Will I lose my uploaded music if I cancel?

No. If you uploaded your own music files to YouTube Music, those uploads remain in your account after cancellation. You can still access and play your uploaded music on the free version of YouTube Music.

What happens to family members if I cancel a Family plan?

If you cancel a YouTube Music Premium Family plan, all family members lose their Premium access at the end of the billing period. Each member keeps their personal library and playlists, but they will revert to the free, ad-supported version.

Can I get a refund from YouTube Music?

YouTube does not typically offer refunds for partial billing periods. Your Premium benefits continue until the end of the current cycle. If you were charged incorrectly or during a free trial you intended to cancel, you can contact Google support to request a refund.
