Important: Check how you subscribed first

If you subscribed to Spotify Premium through Apple, Google Play, or your mobile carrier, you must cancel through that platform instead. The steps below only work for direct Spotify subscribers. Also, the cancel option is not available in the mobile app for direct subscribers — you must use the website.

Cancel Spotify Premium on the Website

1

Go to your Spotify account page

Open a web browser and go to spotify.com/account. Sign in with the account you want to cancel. Make sure you are using the account that holds the Premium subscription.

2

Click Change Plan under Your plan

Scroll down to the Your plan section on the Account page. Click the Change Plan button. This will show you all the plan options available, including the free tier.

3

Select Spotify Free

From the list of available plans, select Spotify Free. This downgrades your account from Premium to the ad-supported free tier at the end of your current billing cycle.

4

Click Cancel Premium and confirm

Click Cancel Premium, then confirm on the next screen. Spotify will show you a summary of what you are giving up. Click the final confirmation button to complete the cancellation.

Family or Duo plan?

Only the plan owner can cancel a Spotify Family or Duo plan. Other members cannot cancel or manage the subscription. If you are not the plan owner, you will need to ask them to cancel.

Subscribed Through Apple or Google?

If you signed up for Spotify Premium through the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or your mobile carrier, you need to cancel through those platforms instead. The Spotify website will not show a cancel option in this case.

What Happens After You Cancel Spotify Premium?

Premium stays until your billing date

Spotify does not cut off Premium access immediately. You can continue enjoying ad-free listening, offline downloads, and unlimited skips until the end of your current billing cycle.

All your playlists and library are preserved

Your playlists, Liked Songs, saved albums, and followers are all kept when you cancel. Nothing in your library is deleted. You switch to the free tier but your music collection stays exactly as it is.

You lose offline downloads

Once your Premium period ends, all downloaded songs and podcasts will be removed from your device. Offline listening is a Premium-only feature and is not available on the free tier.

Free tier has limitations

After canceling, Spotify Free includes ads between songs, shuffle-only playback on mobile, no offline listening, and lower audio quality. You can still search, browse, and listen to the full catalog.

No refunds for unused time

Spotify does not offer refunds for unused portions of your billing period. Even if you cancel the day after being charged, you will not receive a partial refund.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose my playlists if I cancel Spotify Premium?

No. All your playlists, Liked Songs, saved albums, and followers are fully preserved when you cancel. Your account switches to Spotify Free, but your entire music library stays intact. You can pick up right where you left off if you resubscribe later.

Can I still use Spotify after canceling Premium?

Yes. Your account reverts to Spotify Free, which lets you listen to the full music catalog with ads. The main limitations are shuffle-only mode on mobile, advertisements between songs, no offline downloads, and standard audio quality instead of high-quality streaming.

How do I cancel Spotify on iPhone?

If you subscribed through Apple, go to Settings > Apple Account > Subscriptions > Spotify > Cancel Subscription. If you subscribed directly through Spotify, you must cancel via the website at spotify.com/account. The cancel option is not available in the Spotify mobile app for direct subscribers.

Why can't I find the cancel button in the Spotify app?

Spotify does not include a cancel option in their mobile app for users who subscribed directly. You must use a web browser and go to spotify.com/account to cancel. If you subscribed through Apple or Google Play, cancel through those platforms' subscription settings instead.

Can someone else on my Family plan cancel the subscription?

No. Only the plan owner (the person who originally set up and pays for the Family or Duo plan) can cancel the subscription. Other members on the plan cannot cancel or make changes to the subscription settings.
