How to Cancel Discovery+ (and Whether You Even Need It)
Before the steps: do you have Max? It includes the full Discovery+ catalog, and many people are paying twice.
Step zero: the overlap check
Do you have Max? Then you already have Discovery+.
Since May 2023, Max has included the entire Discovery+ catalog: 90 Day Fiance, HGTV, Food Network, ID, Magnolia, Animal Planet. Standalone Discovery+ is cheaper, but the libraries are identical.
Scan your card statement for both a DISCOVERY+/DPLUS charge and a separate MAX/HBO MAX/WBD charge. See both? Cancel Discovery+ and keep Max. Our Max cancel guide covers the reverse.
The fast path (if Discovery+ bills you directly)
Sign in at discoveryplus.com → profile icon → Subscription → Cancel Your Subscription. Access runs through the end of your billing period (except on DirecTV).
If a third party bills you (Roku, Apple, Google, Amazon, cable provider), this button won't work. Use the table below.
First, find who is actually billing you
The #1 reason cancellations fail. Sign in, open Profile → Subscription. The top of that screen names your biller. Match it:

Discovery+ may surface a 50% off for 3 months retention offer at the confirmation screen. Decline if you want out. A receipt email lands within minutes; no email means it didn't save. There is no phone number: BBB complaints confirm reps tell callers "online services do not have a phone number."
The one hostile fork: DirecTV
DirecTV ends access immediately.
Every other platform gives you access through the paid period. DirecTV is the exception: the moment you cancel, Discovery+ stops (you get a prorated DirecTV credit). Finish that season of Naked and Afraid first.
When the charge actually stops
You keep watching through the end of your billing period. No prorated refund. WBD Terms of Use Section 2.4 in all caps: "WE DO NOT PROVIDE REFUNDS CREDIT, OR PRO RATED BILLING FOR CANCELLED SUBSCRIPTIONS."
Same section: cancel at least 24 hours before renewal, or you'll be billed the next cycle. Annual subscribers get no mid-year refund. The $99.99 ad-free annual after the January 2025 price hike locks you in for the year.
One thing Discovery+ doesn't tell you
A lot of people have two Discovery+ subscriptions and don't know it.
Pattern: subscribe via Roku, later sign in on the web, hit a "subscribe" prompt, sign up again. Both bill. Roku Community threads document users paying With Ads on Roku and Ad-Free direct at the same time. Search your statement for DISCOVERY+, DPLUS, ROKU CHANNEL, and APPLE.COM/BILL.
Questions people actually ask
I subscribe to Max. Am I paying for Discovery+ twice?
Probably. Max includes the full Discovery+ catalog. If both charges appear, cancel Discovery+ and keep Max.
Will deleting the app cancel my subscription?
No. Deleting the app does nothing to your billing. The most common false-cancel in the BBB pile. You have to cancel on whichever platform charges your card.
Do I get a prorated refund for the days I have left?
No, unless you are billed through DirecTV. WBD's TOS section 2.4 says so in capital letters. DirecTV is the exception (and access ends immediately).
I cancelled on the website but I'm still being charged. Why?
A third party is your real biller. The merchant on your statement will say ROKU, APPLE, GOOGLE, or your cable provider, not DISCOVERY+. Cancel there.
