Cancel Minecraft Realms (Java Edition)
Download your world first
Before canceling, open Minecraft Java Edition. Go to your Realm, click Configure, then World Backups, and click Download Latest to save a local copy of your world. This is essential since your Realm world is only kept for 18 months after cancellation.
Go to minecraft.net
Open minecraft.net in your web browser and sign in with your Microsoft account (the same one linked to your Minecraft profile).
Navigate to your profile
Click on My Account or your profile name. Look for the Subscriptions section or Manage Realms option. You may be redirected to account.microsoft.com for subscription management.
Cancel recurring billing
On the Microsoft account page, go to Services & subscriptions, find Minecraft Realms, and click Manage. Then click Cancel or Turn off recurring billing. Confirm the cancellation when prompted.
Cancel Realms Plus (Bedrock / Console)
For Bedrock Edition on console (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch) or mobile, the cancellation method depends on which platform you used to subscribe.
Xbox / PC (Microsoft Store)
Go to account.microsoft.com, click Services & subscriptions, find Minecraft Realms Plus, and click Cancel.
PlayStation
On your PS console, go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information > PlayStation Subscriptions. Find Minecraft Realms and cancel. Or go to store.playstation.com and manage subscriptions online.

What Happens After You Cancel Minecraft Realms?
Your Realm stays active until the billing period ends
After canceling, you and your friends can continue playing on the Realm until the end of the current billing period. No immediate disruption to gameplay occurs.
Your world is saved for approximately 18 months
Mojang keeps your Realm world data for roughly 18 months after your subscription expires. If you resubscribe within that window, your world and all its builds are restored. After 18 months, the data may be permanently deleted.
Download your world before it expires
You can download your Realm world to play in single-player mode. In the game, go to your Realm settings and choose the download or backup option. This gives you a local copy independent of the subscription.
Realms Plus marketplace content becomes inaccessible
If you had Realms Plus, the included marketplace content (skins, texture packs, worlds from the catalog) will no longer be accessible after cancellation. Any content you purchased separately from the marketplace remains yours.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is my Realm world saved after canceling?
Mojang stores your Realm world for approximately 18 months after your subscription expires. After that, the world data may be permanently deleted. To be safe, always download a local copy of your world before canceling.
Can my friends still play on my Realm after I cancel?
Your friends can play until the subscription period ends. After that, the Realm goes offline and nobody can access it until you resubscribe. Your friends cannot take over the subscription for you.
What is the difference between Realms and Realms Plus?
Minecraft Realms for Java Edition provides a private server for up to 10 players with no additional content. Realms Plus for Bedrock Edition includes the same server hosting plus access to a rotating catalog of marketplace content including skins, texture packs, and worlds.
Can I get a refund for Minecraft Realms?
Refund policies depend on where you subscribed. Microsoft, Apple, Google, PlayStation, and Nintendo each have their own refund processes. Generally, no refunds are given for partial billing periods. Check the platform's refund policy for details.
Can I host my own Minecraft server instead of using Realms?
Yes. If you want to keep playing multiplayer without paying for Realms, you can host your own Minecraft server for free using the official server software from minecraft.net. This requires more technical knowledge and a computer that stays online, but it is a cost-free alternative.
