How to Cancel Telegram Premium
Telegram has no native cancel button. The Premium panel inside the app is a redirect wrapper, so cancelling happens at whichever platform billed you: Apple, Google, or a bot called @PremiumBot. Three independent paths, one easily missed.
First: which platform is billing you?
Open Telegram, tap Settings, then Telegram Premium. The link at the bottom says App Store, Google Play, or @PremiumBot. That label is your cancel route.
If you got a cheaper price through a friend or a Telegram guide, it was almost certainly @PremiumBot. You will not see anything in your App Store or Play subscription list. The charge never went through them.
Pick your billing path
Billed by the Apple App Store
- Open iOS Settings and tap your name at the very top.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Telegram Messenger.
- Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.
On Mac: System Settings, Apple ID, Media and Purchases, Manage Subscriptions.
Billed by Google Play
- Open the Google Play app and tap your profile photo (top right).
- Tap Payments and Subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then Telegram.
- Tap Cancel Subscription, pick any reason from the dropdown, and confirm.
The reason dropdown is Google's standard flow, not a Telegram retention screen. Any answer works.
Billed by @PremiumBot (the easy-to-miss one)
- Open the chat with @PremiumBot in Telegram (search the username if needed).
- Send
/stop. - That is it. You get a one-line confirmation.
No survey, no modal, no discount offer. The cleanest cancel flow on this whole site.
For visuals, GuidingTech's screenshot walkthrough covers each path.
When the charge actually stops
On all three paths, Premium runs until the end of the current paid period. You keep the badge, 4GB uploads, and extra reactions until that date, then revert to free. No prorated refund. Telegram's TOS, Section 5 is blunt: "all charges for purchases are nonrefundable, and it is not possible to get a partial refund or credit if a user wishes to cancel their recurring subscription early."
One quirk: @PremiumBot has been reported to charge roughly 24 hours before the stated renewal date. If you are timing a "cancel right before renewal," send /stop at least 48 hours ahead.
The thing nobody warns you about
Gift Premium cannot be cancelled. And the code can disappear.
If a friend gifted you 3, 6, or 12 months of Premium, there is nothing to cancel. Gift subs are prepaid, fixed-term, and do not auto-renew. No card on file. Premium just ends on its end date. If you are searching "cancel" because you fear a future charge from a gift, you can stop. There will not be one.
The actual trap is the code. Gift codes do not expire, but if you delete the Telegram message containing the code before redeeming, the code is unrecoverable. Save it in a notes app the moment it arrives.
If you recently switched phones
Apple and Google billing do not transfer. If you went iPhone to Android (or reverse) and are still being charged, cancel at the old platform first. Telegram confirmed this in their bug tracker: cancel the old sub, wait for the period to end, then re-subscribe on the new platform. No migration option exists.
Questions people actually ask
I switched from iPhone to Android. Why is Telegram still charging me?
The Apple subscription is still running. Telegram cannot move billing between platforms. Cancel the Apple one in iOS Settings, wait for the period to end, then re-subscribe on Google Play.
I got Telegram Premium as a gift. How do I cancel?
You don't have to. Gift subscriptions are prepaid and never auto-renew. No card on file, no charge coming. Premium ends when the gift period ends.
Telegram auto-renewed yesterday. Can I get a refund?
Not from Telegram. Their TOS bans partial refunds. Try the platform that billed you. Apple considers requests up to 90 days at reportaproblem.apple.com. Google Play is self-serve within 48 hours, then case-by-case. @PremiumBot offers nothing.
Are Telegram Stars the same as Telegram Premium?
No. Stars are an in-app currency for bots, not a subscription. Buying Stars does not give you Premium, and Stars are non-refundable once purchased.
If you're trimming the chat-app stack
Telegram is sorted. What else is still charging you?
Telegram is the rare easy one. Subcut shows every recurring charge on your card in about 60 seconds.
