Sign in as the family organizer

Go to my.1password.com and sign in with the family organizer account (the person who created the family plan). Only the organizer can manage billing and cancel the subscription.

2

Navigate to Billing settings

Click your name or avatar in the top-right corner, then select Billing from the dropdown menu. This shows your current plan, payment method, and next billing date.

3

Click Manage Billing

In the billing section, click Manage Billing to open the subscription management portal. This may redirect you to the payment processor (Stripe) to manage your plan details.

What Happens After You Cancel 1Password Families?

Access continues until your billing period ends

All family members retain full access to their vaults until the current billing cycle expires. No immediate lockout occurs after cancellation.

Vaults become read-only after expiry

Once the subscription expires, all vaults switch to read-only mode. You can view and export passwords but cannot create new entries or edit existing ones.

Data is preserved but limited

1Password keeps your encrypted data for a grace period after cancellation. If you resubscribe, everything comes back. But export your data beforehand just to be safe.

Notify all family members first

Give everyone on the plan time to export their vault data before cancellation takes effect. Each member should save their passwords to a secure backup or migrate to another password manager.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to my passwords if I cancel?

Your vaults become read-only after your subscription expires. You can still view and export your passwords, but you cannot add new items or edit existing ones. Export before canceling to be safe.

Can I downgrade to a 1Password Individual plan?

Yes. Instead of canceling entirely, contact 1Password support to switch to an Individual plan at $2.99/month. Your personal vault data transfers over, but other family members will need their own accounts.

Will other family members lose their passwords?

Each family member should export their vault data before cancellation. After the plan expires, they will have read-only access for a grace period. Shared vaults will no longer be accessible to members.

Does 1Password offer refunds?

1Password may offer refunds within 30 days of purchase for annual plans. Contact [email protected] to request a refund. Monthly plan charges are generally not refundable.

How do I export my 1Password data?

In the 1Password app, go to File → Export and choose your format (1PUX for 1Password, CSV for other managers). Do this for each vault you want to save. Store the exported file securely.
