Cancel 1Password on the Website

1

Sign in to 1Password.com

Go to 1Password.com in your web browser and sign in with your account credentials. You need to use the account that holds the subscription, which is typically the account organizer or family organizer.

2

Go to Billing

Once signed in, click Billing in the sidebar on the left side of the page. This opens your billing overview where you can see your current plan, payment method, and next billing date.

3

Click Billing Settings

On the Billing page, click Billing Settings. This takes you to the detailed subscription management page where you can modify or cancel your plan.

4

Click Unsubscribe

Find the Unsubscribe option on the Billing Settings page and click it. 1Password will ask you to confirm that you want to cancel automatic renewal. Confirm the cancellation, and you will receive an email confirmation.

Subscribed Through Apple or Google?

If you purchased your 1Password subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store rather than directly from 1Password.com, you must cancel through those platforms. The website billing page will not show a cancel option.

What Happens After You Cancel 1Password?

Access continues until your billing period ends

After canceling, you retain full access to all 1Password features until the end of your current billing cycle. Nothing changes immediately.

Your account becomes frozen (read-only)

Once your billing period ends, your 1Password account enters a frozen state. You can still sign in and view your existing passwords, but you cannot create, edit, or share new items. Your data is preserved safely.

Export your data before it freezes

Before your billing period ends, consider exporting your passwords and vault data. You can export to 1Password's own format (.1pux) or CSV. This ensures you have a backup of all your credentials in case you switch to another password manager.

Resubscribing restores full access

If you decide to come back, simply resubscribe and your account will be unfrozen. All your saved passwords, vaults, and settings will be exactly as you left them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose all my passwords if I cancel 1Password?

No. Your passwords and vault data are preserved even after canceling. Your account enters a frozen (read-only) state where you can view existing items but cannot create or edit them. It is recommended to export your data before canceling if you plan to switch to a different password manager.

Does 1Password offer refunds?

1Password evaluates refund requests on a case-by-case basis. If you were recently charged and want to request a refund, contact their support team through the 1Password website. Refunds are more likely for recent charges, especially if you have not used the service extensively.

What is the difference between canceling and deleting my 1Password account?

Canceling stops your subscription and freezes your account, but all your data is preserved. Deleting your account permanently removes all your data, vaults, and credentials. If you just want to stop paying, cancel your subscription. Only delete if you want everything permanently removed.

Can I cancel a 1Password Families plan?

Yes. Only the family organizer can cancel a 1Password Families plan. The steps are the same: sign in to 1Password.com, go to Billing, open Billing Settings, and click Unsubscribe. All family members will lose access when the billing period ends.
