Cancel Proton on the Website
Log in to your Proton account
Go to account.proton.me in your web browser and sign in with your Proton credentials. This is the unified account page for all Proton services including VPN, Mail, Drive, and Calendar.
Navigate to Subscriptions
In your account dashboard, click on Subscriptions. This displays your current plan, billing cycle, and payment information for all Proton services.
Click Cancel subscription
Scroll to the bottom of the Subscriptions page. Under the Cancel subscription section, click Continue. Proton may show information about features you will lose by downgrading.
Confirm in the popup
A confirmation popup will appear asking you to verify that you want to cancel auto-renewal. Click to confirm. Your paid features will remain active until the end of your current billing period, then your account reverts to the free Proton plan.

What Happens After You Cancel Proton?
Paid features stay active until billing period ends
You keep all your paid Proton features until the end of the current billing cycle. After that, your account reverts to the free Proton plan.
Your data and emails are preserved
Your Proton Mail emails, contacts, Drive files, and calendar entries are not deleted. However, if you exceed the free tier storage limit, you may need to reduce your usage to continue sending and receiving mail.
All Proton services are affected
If you have a bundled Proton Unlimited plan, canceling affects all services: VPN, Mail, Drive, Calendar, and Pass. They all revert to free-tier limits simultaneously.
Export important data before canceling
Consider exporting critical emails, contacts, and files before your plan downgrades. If you exceed the free storage limit, accessing your data may become difficult until you clean up or resubscribe.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get a refund from Proton?

Does canceling Proton VPN affect Proton Mail?
If you have a bundled plan (like Proton Unlimited), canceling affects all Proton services. If you have separate VPN-only and Mail-only subscriptions, they are managed independently. Check your subscription page to see what is included in your plan.
Will I lose my Proton email address?
No. Your Proton email address is not deleted when you cancel your paid subscription. Your account reverts to the free tier, and you keep your email address and existing emails, subject to the free storage limit.
